Really...

I have a group of girl friends, some of which I have known since elementary school…we were all very close in high school and still see some of them every six months or so. They have all gotten married and are now on their second or third kid so we have drifted apart. My life has turned out very different than theirs. One of them emailed me last January to tell me that she was pregnant with their third baby…a total surprise to them (she thought her hubby was too old to have any more kids…he is 44ish). She knew of my struggles and wanted to tell me before I saw it on FB. It was very considerate of her and I really appreciated her thinking of my feelings. She didn’t know that the week she announced her pregnancy to me was the same week of my second miscarriage. I have stayed away from her since then which makes me feel like a horrible friend. I decided to email her yesterday since I knew her due date was coming up. She has two other kids…Luke and Lilly. I asked her if she was going with the L theme for the baby’s name and she said no…she is deciding between two other names. One of them is MY pick for a girl…I have wanted to use the name for the past year if not longer. It’s so not fair that she gets a surprise baby and uses my name. I almost started crying at work today when I read her message. I guess today is a pity party day for me. I know I can’t claim names especially since I am IF but give me a fucking break.

  1. i'm hoping really hard for you that she takes one look at her baby, and decides on another name! or, that she's sooo delirious, that she names her child "apple".

i'm sooo sorry. this just sucks and none of this is fair. we'll get there. have faith :o)

  3. With any luck, she'll change her mind. I'm sorry it has to be this way. Life just doesn't seem to go the way we plan.

  5. I know what you mean... years ago when I was at the beginning of my IF struggle I always said I would name our first child Caleb... if its a boy... a member of my husbands family thought it was a good name and also choose it for their son... they have three children... I sure hate that you're having a hard time...

  6. If I was you and when you have that baby some day I would use it anyway....after all the hell of IF who cares....you can spell it different....and it would mean way more in your situation anyways....so still keep your name regardless...girlie:)

  8. It's tough when other fertile people 'steal' our names. But I agree with everyone else, you can still use it and it will always be special to you.

  9. I HATE when people steal my ideas for baby names. It's happened a couple of times since we started trying and it always makes me emotional. I'm so sorry, sweetie. :( IF sucks on so many levels.

  10. Thanks for all your comments! I told my hubby about it last night and he said "screw them...we don't see them enough for it to matter". I still love the name and am really hoping they take Sienna's advice and name her Apple!

  11. You know, the name thing totally sucks. I'm really possessive about the names I like, and even though they're not that popular and I never tell people, they still seem to get found and used before I can name my nonexistent kid! I'm really sorry about your miscarriage and send you a big ol' hug.
